I. FAREWELL ISSUE AND WELCOME ISSUE…
The Changing of the “Well-Fed” Guard…
As most of you know, I’ve formally announced my retirement from both copywriting and writing/publishing books on the subject. I made the announcement a few weeks back (now archived on the blog).
I have cherished the three decades as a working writer and author of books on the subject and I am now turning over the reins of my “Well-Fed Writer” brand to long time successful copywriter and founder of AllFreelanceWriting.com, Jennifer Mattern.
This issue of The Well-Fed E-PUB will be my last,
but the E-PUB will live on with Jennifer.
As I noted in the closing paragraph of my letter…
The commercial-writing world has gone through some pretty massive shifts in recent years. Given Jenn’s technical chops and her long-proven talent for having her finger on the pulse of the industry, I know in my bones that she will serve both you and the WFW brand well in the years to come…
The writing field faces many challenges, with AI looming as the most immediate, and in many people’s eyes – threatening.
Yet fact is, there’s actually a lot to be optimistic about. Plenty of writers have embraced AI in their daily practice, and, as a result, finding themselves becoming more valuable to their clients.
Sure, while some clients replaced freelancers with AI tools, just as importantly…
Many other clients either know or have come to realize that becoming proficient at AI will take more bandwidth than they have, so they’re turning to writers who’ve leaned into AI, and learned how valuable it can be to their productivity, and, by extension, to their clients’ writing needs.
Fact is, yours truly has not jumped into the AI realm, and frankly, after 40+ years in the working world, I wasn’t prepared, or inclined to retool my business.
By contrast, Jennifer has embraced and harnessed AI in her day-to-day practice (though not directly in her writing).
Coupled with her vast copywriting experience and prodigious grasp of the technological and legal aspects of the writing profession, it makes her an ideal guide for working commercial writers looking to navigate these complex times.
She even has an ongoing series on her All Freelance Writing blog covering AI for writers. Here are some posts to give you a feel for her take on the AI issue.
– AI Content and the Future of Freelance Writing
– Ethical AI: Legal & Ethical Considerations for Writers and Publishers
– 80 AI Use Cases for Freelance Writers
Her next post in the series will cover ways she uses AI tools to shut down sites infringing on her work. Hopefully that never happens to you, but if it does that post might come in handy…
Jenn on the Future of the Well-Fed EPUB
Hi all! Jenn here…
I know change can be uncomfortable, so I want to assure you that Peter and I are working to make this transition as smooth as possible.
What’s Staying the Same: The general format of the EPUB won’t change any time in the near future. It might look a little different, but it will follow Peter’s current basic format featuring 3 or more short pieces in each issue.
Those issues will remain monthly, delivered in the first week of the month.
What’s Changing: The biggest change involves moving everything to my company’s email marketing service. No need to re-subscribe.
Please Whitelist: The sending address for EPUBs will change starting with the April issue. To make sure it doesn’t go to your junk mail, please add epub@wellfedwriter.com to your email contacts or whitelist.
Open to Contributions: Other than that, I’m happy to continue including short pieces (200-300 words) from subscribers!
Have a story you’d like to share, or a tip related to commercial freelancing? Please email those to me for consideration at jenn@wellfedwriter.com.
Include “EPUB Submission” (without the quotes) in your email subject line so they filter to the right place and don’t get overlooked.

II. UNLOCKING AI SUPERPOWERS FOR WRITERS
New, Free Super-Useful Report: 49 Ways to Use AI
Speaking of AI…You may have seen this, but, if not, Ed Gandia—friend, colleague, business coach for writers, and regular contributor to the E-PUB—just released a pretty darn useful AI resource, and it won’t cost you dime.
Take it away, Ed…
AI is revolutionizing how the world does…well, just about everything. And as cliché as it’s starting to sound, I really believe this is true: AI won’t replace you, but a writer using AI in workflows will.
While there’s understandably been plenty of fear and uncertainty around the encroachment of AI, there’s also plenty of reason to be excited about AI’s potential to dramatically increase our productivity as commercial writers.
For the 18 months, I’ve done a deep dive into the promise and potential of AI for writers, and believe me, there’s plenty of both!
I give you a glimpse into what I’ve uncovered in my new (and free!) PDF:
Unlocking AI Superpowers for Writers and Solo Marketers:
49 Game-Changing Ways to Work Faster, Smarter and More Creatively
As I note in the intro to the piece, you’ll find…
“…practical, real-world use cases categorized by different stages of your writing and content creation process. From brainstorming and research to drafting, refining, and promoting your work, these examples will transform the way you use AI—without sacrificing your unique voice and expertise.”
